Hon. Lady Justice Florence Mulenga Lengalenga

 

PROFILE

Hon. Lady Justice Florence Mulenga Lengalenga is a retired Judge . She was appointed Judge of the Court of Appeal on 13th November, 2017. Justice Lengalenga holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia. She is also a graduate of Oxford University in the United Kingdom and McGill University in Canada. She was admitted to the bar in 1980.

Prior to her appointment to the Court of Appeal, Justice Lengalenga served as a Judge of the High Court from 1999 to 2017.  Justice Lengalenga has served in various position in the Judiciary since she first joined as a Commissioner of the High Court in 1990. She served as a Deputy Chairperson of the Industrial Relations Court from 1994 to 1999 and acted as Judge of the Supreme Court from 2012 to 2014. Before she joined the bench, Justice Lengalenga served in various capacities in the government including as a Legal Aid Assistant from 1979 to 1980, a State Advocate in  the then Ministry of Legal Affairs now the Ministry of Justice from 1981 to 1986, an Assistant Senior State Advocate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1986 to 1989 and Director of Legal and Research in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1989 to 1990.

Justice Lengalenga served as Chairperson of the Judiciary’s Advisory Committee on Gender in Development from 2011 to 2017.

Justice Lengalenga is a member of the Zambia Association of Women Judges (ZAWJ) and once served as Vice President of ZAWJ.
