The newly elected Council of the Law Association of Zambia Pays a courtesy call on the Hon. Chief Justice

 

The newly elected Council of the Law Association of Zambia paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Chief Justice on Friday, 11th May 2018. The meeting focused on the continued partnership between the two institutions in the dispensation of Justice.

In her remarks, the Hon. Chief Justice congratulated the new LAZ executive that was voted into office on 7th April 2018 on the successful elections. The Hon. Chief Justice was accompanied by the Hon. Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. M. Justice Marvin S. Mwanamwambwa, Hon. Lady Justice Hildah Chibomba- President of the Constitutional Court, Hon. Mr. Justice Gregory S. Phiri JS, Hon. Dr. Justice Mumba Malila JS, Hon. Mr. Justice Michael Musonda JS, Hon. Mr. Justice Nigel K. Mutuna JS, Hon. Mr. Justice Chalwe R. Muchenga Deputy Judge President- Court of Appeal and other senior members of the Judiciary.

The LAZ executive that called upon the Hon. Chief Justice were led by the LAZ President Mr. Eddie Mwitwa. Others were Mr. Andrew Muskwa-Vice President, Mwenya Mukupa- Honorary Secretary, Milingo Lungu- Honorary Treasurer, and Nkusuwila Mbao, Gertrude Musyani, and Matilda Kaoma, Council Members.

The Hon. Chief Justice expressed concern over what are perceived to be bad elements that are denting the image of the entire legal fraternity. She empahsised the need to fight vices such as corruption, and said that it is disheartening to note that some of the people expected to fight corruption and injustice are instead in the forefront of fostering the vices.

Mr. Mwitwa congratulated Her Ladyship on the strides that the Judiciary is undertaking in the reduction of backlog, such as the establishment of the Commercial Division of the High Court at Kitwe, and that the new LAZ Council looks forward to continuous interactions between the Bar and the Bench.
