Programme for the 2019 Annual Judicial Conference

I am delighted to welcome you all to the 2019 Judicial Conference being held in our tourist capital, Livingstone from 17th – 19th December 2019. The Conference is a very important occasion in our judicial calendar. It affords us, as adjudicators, an excellent opportunity to introspect in a candid manner. It is also an opportune time, as the year closes, to review the performance of the Judiciary during the year and plan for the future.

Though we have not been able to host the event for the last two years due to financial and logistical constraints, this year’s Conference promises to be very stimulating and refreshing.

The Conference theme, “Enhancing capacities for improved Access to Justice” has been carefully chosen. It is an expression of our constitutional mandate to ensure timely and affordable justice for all. In order to achieve this, we must ensure that the justice we deliver provides lasting solutions that are relevant to, and meet the needs of society.

It is only through this kind of interaction that those of us on the bench can sharpen our intellect and ability to dispense justice. We also have the rare opportunity to renew friendships and acquaintances in a more relaxed setting other than our chambers.

I am certain that at the end of this Conference we will be recharged to continuously update the way we deal with cases and arrive at fair and just decisions, according to the law.

To you all, and especially those visiting Zambia, I encourage you to find time to sample the tourism attractions that Livingstone has to offer.

I look forward to meeting you at the Conference.

Hon. Mrs. Justice I. C. Mabilima, Chief Justice
