Hon. Justice Dr. Winnie Sithole Mwenda – Judge-in-Charge, Ndola High Court

 

 

PROFILE

Hon. Justice Dr. Winnie Sithole Mwenda is the Judge-in-Charge of the Ndoala High Court. She was appointed Judge of the High Court on 24th February, 2016. Justice Mwenda holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia, a Master of Laws degree from the University of Zambia and a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of South Africa. She was admitted to the bar in 1981.

Prior to her current appointment, Justice Mwenda served as Deputy Chairperson of the Industrial Relations Court from 2014. Justice Mwenda Served as the Secretary to the Judicial Complaints Authority from 2012 to 2014. She served as Permanent Secretary (Legal) in the Ministry of Justice and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security from 2010 to 2011 and 2009 to 2010, respectively. From 2003 to 2009, Justice Mwenda served as Defence Counsel at the Caprivi High Treason Trial in Namibia. Justice Mwenda was managing partner at W. Sithole-Mwenda and Company, a law firm from 1990 to 2003. She also served as Legal Counsel at the Zambia Engineering and Contracting Company Limited (ZECCO) from 1985 to 1988 and State Advocate/Acting Assistant Senior Research Fellow at the Law Development Commission from 1982 to 1985.

Justice Mwenda served as a lecturer at the University of Zambia from 2000 to 2003 and 2011 to 2012. From 2002 to 2004, she served as Deputy Chairperson of the Lands Tribunal. Justice Mwenda served on multiple boards including the Workers Compensation Fund Control Board, ZISC Limited Board, Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission Board, Public Service Pension Fund Board, Zambia Development Agency Board and National Pension Scheme Authority.

She has also published some books and articles and presented papers at numerous conferences both locally and internationally.

She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Zambia Association of Women Judges.
