Hon. Lady Justice Maria Mapani Kawimbe, Judge of the High Court, has been elected for another term as the 2nd Rapporteur in the 2019-2021 Bureau of the Committee under the African Union Treaty Body, the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) during the 34th Ordinary Session currently underway in Egypt, under the theme Harmonization of Child Rights Laws in Africa.

The African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child draws its mandate from Articles 32-46 of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, which was adopted by the Heads of State and Government of the OAU on 11th July 1990 and came into force on 29th November 1999.
